Indoor PE sessions:

3E Tuesday Morning & 3H Wednesday Morning

Please make sure that your child's P.E. kit is in school at all times and is clearly labelled with their full name and class. If your child attends an after-school sports club, please ensure their kit is sent back to school the following day. A Davington tracksuit is available from the school office should you wish to purchase one. Your child will also need a pair of trainers (different to school shoes) for outside Games sessions.

If your child wears earrings please make sure that these are removed or that they are able to remove these for P.E. sessions.  Only stud earrings may be worn. No hoops please. P.E. kits will be sent home at the end of every term for washing.

Water

It is important that children drink plenty of water throughout the day. Please send your child to school with a named water bottle that they can use and refill during the day.

Breaktime snacks

The free fruit scheme finishes at the end of Year 2, so if your child needs a snack mid-morning, please send them in with a snack of fruit / vegetables which can be kept in their school bag until break time.

If your child has a packed lunch, they will need to remove any snack or drinks bottle needed for class use as lunchbox cupboards are locked. Please ensure any snack pots/boxes are named.

Homework

Spellings will be sent home on Monday which will be tested weekly on the following Monday.

In addition to spellings, there will be a Maths activity in purple homework books to consolidate the learning. This will be set on a Monday and will be due in on a Friday. In addition to this, we ask that children access TTRS to support with their times tables. Their TTRS username and passwords will be on a sticker in their Reading Records. There may be times when we send home optional activities for you to do with your child that support the learning in the classroom.

We also ask that children read for at least 10 minutes every day with an adult. Please record when you have heard your child read in their Reading Records, as we keep a record of this. Their reading record should be brought home daily and will be checked in school weekly on a Friday. We request that children bring their reading book and record to school each day.

Reading

In Year 3, children will be asked to become more independent and will change their own reading book. We will support the children with this. Reading books will correspond to a book colour on our scheme, Accelerated Reader. To ascertain the appropriate level of challenge, the children will take a termly reading assessment. For this, the children will read passages of text and will answer multiple choice questions on what they have read. This will show us their levels of understanding, not just phonic knowledge. These do not correspond to any previous colours.

Once your child has completed a book, they can take a quiz - this needs to be independent.

These can be completed at home or at school.

Here is our school link to do these at home, should you wish to use it :

Accelerated Reader

Their username and passwords to Accelerated Reader will be on a sticker in their Reading Record, along with their book level colour.

Library time

All children have timetabled access to our wonderful library each week. They need to bring their library book back to school on our allotted day as we cannot guarantee that they can be changed at other times.

Class library time:  3H - Friday & 3E - Wednesday

Over the course of the term there will be an opportunity for you to see your child’s classroom and for them to share some of their learning with you. Please keep an eye out for dates in the coming weeks.
