Year 1
Welcome to Year 1
We would like to take this opportunity to welcome both you and your child to Year 1. The teachers in Year 1 are Mrs Bland and Mrs Geeves. Supporting the Year 1 teachers are Miss Stebbeds, Miss Symkiss and Miss Thornton. We are looking forward to an exciting and successful year.

School uniform:
We are very proud of whole school appearance and hope that you will always ensure that your child arrives in school appropriately dressed in full school uniform. Please ensure that every item of clothing, footwear and equipment is clearly marked with your child’s name. School uniform is as follows:
Blue School Jumper/Cardigan (with school logo)
Charcoal Grey/Black Trousers
Charcoal Grey/Black Skirt
White Polo Shirt (with or without school logo)
Black Shoes (heel no higher than 2.5cm/1”)
Plain Black Trainers with no logos may be worn
Winter Only – Boots may be worn to and from school, however school shoes must be brought to school to change into.
Please note: Trainers are only to be worn for P.E. lessons and are NOT to be worn for both P.E. and as general school shoes on Health and Safety grounds.
Summer Term Only
Girls may wear blue gingham or a blue striped dress
Charcoal Grey/Black tailored shorts
Black, Blue or White sandals (one colour only) with heels no higher than 2.5cm (1”) White socks
P.E. Outdoor games
Outdoor Games: Year 1 will be swimming on a Thursday Morning.
Indoor P.E. : 1B Monday afternoons and 1G Tuesday afternoons.
This will be indoors so only plimsolls or soft soled trainers may be worn.
Please make sure that your child's P.E. kit is in school at all times and is clearly labelled with their full name and class. If your child attends an after school sports club, please ensure their kit is sent back to school the following day. A Davington tracksuit is available from the school office should you wish to purchase one. Your child will also need a pair of trainers (different to school shoes) for outside Games sessions.
If your child wears earrings please make sure that these are removed or that they are able to remove these for P.E. sessions. Only stud earrings may be worn. No hoops please.
P.E. kits will be sent home at the end of every term for washing.

Water
It is important that children drink plenty of water throughout the day. Please send your child to school with a named water bottle that they can use and refill during the day.
Breaktime snacks
The free fruit sceme finishes at the end of year two so if your child needs a snack mid morning, please send them in with a snack of fruit / vegetables which can be kept in their school bag until break time.
If your child has a packed lunch, they will need to remove any snack or drinks bottle needed for class use as lunchbox cupboards are locked.
Please ensure any snack pots/boxes are named.
Homework
In Term 1 we will send out a selection of possible extra curricular ideas for your children to have a go at home. These will be fun activities that will consolidate the learning and exploring that they will have had in the classroom.
Reading
We ask that children read for at least 10 minutes every day with an adult. Please record when you have heard your child read as we keep a record of this. Their reading record should be brought home daily and will be checked in school weekly. We request that children bring their reading book and record to school each day. Children who successfully read three times a week each week for the term will receive their reading gem award.
We will only change the children’s books when they have read it through three times, beginning to end. This will allow the children to build up their reading skills. The first read is applying their phonics, the second read they will build up their fluency and by the third all of the skills come together! This will be evaluated as the books they read become lengthier.
Library time
All children have timetabled access to our wonderful library each week. They need to bring their library book back to school on our allotted day as we cannot guarantee that they can be changed at other times.
