The National Curriculum provides a necessary framework and ensures continuity through the child's school life.  The new national curriculum was introduced in 2014 and is now being delivered across all year groups.  The ‘basic’ school curriculum includes the ‘national curriculum’, as well as religious education and sex education.

Having an up-to-date detailed knowledge of where your child is working is fundamental to our school vision and ethos so that children make good or better progress.  Ongoing assessment enables teachers to tailor lessons and learning experiences to meet the needs of your child by quickly highlighting where children may have barriers to learning so that effective intervention can be planned.

Many parents may have experienced their child’s attainment being given a ‘level’.  This is no longer used for the new national curriculum as children are assessed against age-expected outcomes.

An overview of the current national curriculum published by the Department for Education is available on the gov.uk website.
